Gifted and Talented (GT)
Grades K-12Carroll ISD (Southlake) gives the CogAT and ITBS to all 4th graders each fall. Other students need a GT Referral Form from a parent, guardian or teacher before formal evaluation: grades 1-4 refer in November and test in late November-December; kindergarten refers in January and tests in late January-early February, after fall planned experiences for all kindergartners. A trained District GT Screening Committee decides on a preponderance of evidence; no single score guarantees or prevents placement.

Deadlines
- Elementary (grades 1-4) GT referral (2026-11-20): Referrals for grades 1-4 are taken from 8:00 a.m. on November 9 until 3:00 p.m. on November 20. source
- Kindergarten GT referral (2027-01-14): Kindergarten referrals are taken January 4-14. source
Appeals / retesting: Families may appeal in writing to the campus GT Specialist within 10 business days of the date on the decision letter (new evidence, conditions affecting performance, or procedures applied unfairly). source
