Gifted and Talented (state identification)
Grades 2-12South Carolina gives every second grader the CogAT and the Iowa Assessments as universal screeners, in a state-set fall window. Students qualify by meeting two of three dimensions: aptitude (A), achievement (B) and performance (C). Students who meet A or B but not both take the state Performance Task Assessment in the spring.

Published criteria
- Dimension A (aptitude): 93rd percentile or higher in one area (verbal, nonverbal or quantitative) or 96th percentile composite, valid 5 years. Students need two of three dimensions. source
- Dimension B (achievement): 94th percentile or higher in reading and/or math on an approved achievement test. source

- Grade 2 score reports delivered to districts (2026-12-13): Score reports and data files go to districts on December 13, 2026. source
