Fort Worth Independent School District: gifted testing
Advanced Academics and Gifted & Talented
Grades K-12Fort Worth ISD identifies G/T students in four steps: refer, assess, select, notify. A student needs a referral and parent permission; the 2026-27 forms are on the district page. The team reviews parent and teacher input and existing data such as NWEA MAP and STAAR, and students create an online G/T portfolio of open-ended challenges (in kindergarten and 1st grade, planned classroom experiences serve as the portfolio). The page does not name a separate ability test.
| Test | Grades | Who | When | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NWEA MAP (existing data) | K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | Referred students with parent permission | Most of the 2026-27 school year | source |
| G/T portfolio | K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | Referred students with parent permission | Most of the 2026-27 school year | source |
Appeals / retesting: Appeals follow the district G/T manual; the current appeal form is linked from the identification page. source
